Will Smith as Dr. Forbin?

On wikipedia it was said Will Smith will be Dr. Forbin in the remake of Colossus. Why do they need to cast a person who has been in several big SciFi films as the lead? "I have a bad feeling about this" (ala Star Wars). This may be the harbinger of a formula script and something disappointing like kanue Reeves in "the Day the Earth Stood Still" remake after he played in all the "matrix" series of movies. Pick someone who fits the part and not a box office draw.

He won't be cast in this. I'm sick of that no-talent ass.

Will Smith is less interested in acting than he is in being a movie star. I guess he's trying to live up to the words of Peter O'Toole's character from "My Favorite Year:" "I am not an actor, I am a movie star!" Of course, it took an excellent actor in Peter O'Toole to say those lines. Will Smith is not an excellent actor.

Anyway, Smith has a formula for the type of movies he picks, where he's sure he can identify "blockbuster" movies to appear in based on a formula. He noticed that really high-budget science fiction movies built around aliens, superpowers, and end-of-the world themes have a much higher chance of being blockbusters, and his own career showed that with "Men In Black" and "Independence Day." Yet ironically, he got both those roles before he started seeking those type of formula movies, and since then, as he's tried to self-select movies that would be blockbusters, they've failed. Things like "I am Legend," "Hancock" and "I Robot" have all underperformed.

Colossus is a long-forgotten movie to most, and it was built not on special effects, but an intelligent story that holds up well to this day. (You can find it on YouTube if anyone is interested.) My guess is the new version will inject a lot more action, less dialouge, big-budget special effects, and a typical Hollywood-movie ending, which the original most definately did not have. A shame. Perhaps I'll be wrong.
