Any news of a WS edition?

shareFirst of all thanks for your response and you make a very valid point however IIRC someone mentioned that they had a WS version. I think it was on Laser Disk though.
shareIt was originally released theatrically in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The laser disc was in widescreen, VHS and DVD versions full-screen. It is available in widescreen only in Region 2. You can watch the entire movie right now at the moment on YouTube in widescreen and a very good image (update- well it's been pulled off YouTube glad I got a chance to see it when I did):

"Supposedly" a much-delayed new theatrical version of the story is in the works by Universal so maybe this may explain why the original film hasn't gotten re-released in widescreen in Region 1 by now.

shareYou're welcome, just to be clear supposedly Universal could be filming a brand new/updated version of Colossus for theatrical release. It's anybody's guess whether the 1970 film will be re-released by them in widescreen for region 1 DVD (and/or Blu-Ray). The original is a classic for sure but I'm not holding my breath for any equally compelling re-make or new take on it- not with the sorry track record of re-makes!

shareI have a beautiful copy of this movie from LaserDisc, in widescreen, on two Beta tapes, at the fast B-I speed, if anyone needs a copy. It's not DVD quality, to be sure, but very watchable AND in true 2.35:1! Write me at [email protected].

So true. COLOSSUS was NOT shot as a TV movie. I'm not sure how that myth got started. (Perhaps the lack of any real movie stars in the cast?)
It wasn't a hugely budgeted film, but it sure as hell wasn't a micro-budgeted, shot-in-14-days, TV movie either.
