Remake in the works

They can't remake *this* film, which was very much of its time and zeitgeist!
They can, however, make a TV show about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, that bears no relation to this film and doesn't try to capture its unique mixture of comedy, drama, 1960s anti-establishmentism, and nihilism.
well its all about the meaning of 'remake' or 'reboot'. i guess a direct remake is one which literally remakes the original same characters situations plot etc (usually transferring it to the modern day) the most literal being the colour Psycho remake, but also Rob Zombies Halloween, Oceans 11, etc.
a Reboot (or Reimagining) is where they take the concept and try to spin it off into a new thing (sometimes with new characters) similar plot but not exact as a remake - so Ghostbusters 2016, Burtons Apes, Batman Begins, Casino Royale, JJ Star Trek (although that is also a sequel/prequel), Battlestar Galactica, the Hannibal tv show etc
with Butch Cassidy its based on real life events and they'll be taking the basic material and expanding it, but as the film is so iconic will no doubt be paying homage/redoing various stuff from that - so maybe more of a remake
My guess is that whoever is reprinting a brief announcement like this one isn't being precise about the difference between a remake, a reboot, a biopic, etc.
Journalistic standards in the entertainment press are low.
