The great SAM ELLIOTT--

He's listed in the credits but we don't see him in the movie. Anyone know what his scene was like before it was cut?

reply

he's in the card playing scene at the beginning.(he looks very young)

reply

And he was in the camera eye very, very briefly.

Correct. There is some confusion over this scene, as many people believe that the cardplayer who has his face clearly shown and who speaks to Sundance Kid (the character's name is Macon, and is played by Donnelly Rhodes) is Sam Elliott. This character is NOT Sam Elliott. Sam Elliott's character is "Card Player #2," is barely visible and has no speaking lines.

..and before he adopted his "authentic cowboy drawl"

I was about to ask the same question! Sam Elliott was listed as "card player #2" in the cast credits at the end of the movie, and I went back and forth trying to find him but couldn't. Believe me I looked! I think the scene was cut.

BTW I didn't know Sam Elliott and Katherine Ross have been married since 1984!!!

I think he is only in one shot.

In the card game there are obviously four players, but we see only three. after the tension is resolved, there is a single shot, with SS stand out of the action on the left of the screen, if memory serves.

Why that got a credit, over many other characters who are clearly shown, and many of whom speak, or make some impresdion, especially in Bolivia, I don't really get. I guess the scene was indeed trimmed.
