1st war movie to deal with fragging... ?

When Angel attempted to frag Barnes, also one of the first American war movies to show GI's in not such a holy light, Hartman smashing dead Nazis with rifle butt. Glover collapsing in the house from PTSD, orders being questioned by Hartman... I don't believe I've ever seen any war movies to deal with fragging, PTSD, and war crimes, from the allies.

It was a somewhat more cynical film than most about American soldiers.

Real life is cynical! So much better than the normal flag waivers like SPR.

I agree. Made in 1968 and released the following year, it may have been influenced by the then ongoing Vietnam War. Basically this film went even beyond Attack! and Hell Is For Heroes in its rather gritty portrayal of men (and to some extent, women) in war.

Very good point, especially since 68' had "more history than America could handle" Tet, RFK, King, etc... You may like some of my top WWII, and Vietnam films lists..

reply

Yes, I have seen several of those films.
