British pilot giving French pilot a lift in the opening scenes...

Would this have been possible? Could the Hurricane carry two in a situation like that?

reply

It HAS been done...but it IS dangerous as all heck: one or both need to ditch their parachutes to fit & more than likely they cannot strap in or maybe even not close the canopy--and I ain't even talking about how slow they will have to fly when they get in the air--assuming they can taxi & take off again.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

reply

Yeah, you're right, Nick, it has been done with a Hurricane, not very comfortable I would imagine either. I doubt you could do the same thing in a Spitfire though, the Hurricane was a tad roomier.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

I think I read about it being done in a Hurrie in the Western Desert--I am re-reading the Chris Shores 're-do' of his classic 'Fighters in the Desert/Fighters Over Tunisia' series.

Dunno if it's possible in a Spitfire, but you do see a film depiction of it happening in Dark Blue World.
