The Harveys

Colin and Maggie's fighting over the posting seemed really out of place and useless to the story line. plus it was irritating. and york was either really a bad actress or the character was a ditz and that how york was playing her. Either way, fast forward through all their scenes and you won't miss a thing.

It's the only relationship with continuity due to everyone getting killed. Through it we see the decline of a fighter pilot due to stress and exhaustion and the development of a superficial "gel" into a responsible adult.

Colin should have ditched the wife and hired a slut for the night.
Women were pretty easy for the RAF pilots.

The silliest thing about the 'London Blitz' scene was that she was larking about while the bombs came down - this was within days or weeks of her being in an air raid where ten dead women were laid out under groundsheets in front of her; she wouldn't have been laughing soon afterwards in a similar situation.

The Harvey romance was an attempt to mitigate the possibility of women avoiding the movie if it had been all-male, all-action. It's the weakest part of a great historical film that would have been tightened-up and shorter by fifteen or twenty minutes if it had been left out.
