Coming to DVD in October of 2008

THE BABYSITTER (1969) made its home video debut on October 7, 2008, as part of the eight-film DVD set DRIVE-IN CULT CLASSICS vol. 3 (as listed at Amazon.com and Best Buy). The film is joined by seven other Crown International Pictures drive-in releases from the 1970s. Due to an absence of acceptable film elements, THE BABYSITTER has been struck from a PAL source, which is duly noted on the back of the display box. Although there is a bit of ghosting that accompanies character movement, the film remains a top rarity, and this is probably the best transfer that we're likely to see. Most of the other films in the box set are anamorphic (1:78-1) widescreen, and look bright and colorful.

I just saw this film and thoroughly enjoyed it. Patricia Wymer was terrific in the lead.

I just saw your mini-bio of Ms. Wymer, and I really enjoyed it. It's a shame that there's so little known about her. Is that Leonard Nimoy BILBAO BAGGINS video available anywhere? It was probably too late to have been a Scopitone.

Ms. Wymer remains as elusive as another blonde goddess from late sixties/early seventies softcore flicks, Ms. Monica Gayle, another gal who dropped out of show business and has totally covered her tracks since then.

Luckily, Nimoy's performance of "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" has been posted on YouTube in both color and black and white versions. By the way, I penned the mini-bio for Monica Gayle as well. I'm glad you enjoyed my bio on Patricia Wymer.

Hello, Jobla:

I've just started watching Volume Three of "Drive-In Cult Classics," and I can tell I'm for a very rewarding experience. I barely noticed the ghosting, and only because I was looking for it after I read the disclosure on the box.

Can you explain, for the lay person, what causes this ghosting when a film is transferred from the PAL format? And was it in PAL from a VHS? I'd appreciate any insight you surely have.
