YES!!! DVD available in this region - 9/18/2007

Apparently they JUST put it up TODAY!! It will be packaged with "Mary, Queen of Scotts" - good combo! And if you buy it with "Beckett", you'll save even more.

Finally. We've only been asking for it since DVDs were invented. (sheesh)

Woops, Ruthann beat me, she found it first. :)

All I can say is it's about BLOODY time!

A beautiful film poorly served with this American DVD. NO SPECIAL FEATURES! I think it was copied directly from the British DVD version. The print is dark and dirty. Where is a commentary by Genevieve Bujold or Charles Jarrot? Why does the MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS version have a commentary on the score by John Barry, but nothing about the equally beautiful Georges Delerue score for ANNE? Not even a gallery for the Oscar winning costumes of Margaret Furse. At the very least...it's on DVD for our region. Perhaps they'll rethink for the next release, but what a missed opportunity!

Granted the movie has no commentary. I still loved it. I liked Mary, Queen of Scots too. It was fun watching two of my favorite movies of that time with some of the top actors. People who compare this movie to Elizabeth the Golden Age are going to be in for a severe disappointment. I see several reasons for differences. They include: lack of subtlety, poor music, brutality which separate the new movie from the older ones.

Is this DVD release in mono? If it is, I may as well just dub my widescreen VHS version onto a DVD.

reply

Yes the VHS copy is awesome. I found mine for around a dollar or two. It looks great.

I am SO buying this! Thanks for the link!

reply

O just watched it on R1 DVD and it looks fine.
