Who played him?
Who played the young ferryman/boatman making passes at Cora on the boat? I could not really remember that anyone addressed him by his name. Does he go as a newsboy in the movie credits? Thank you.

shareI think (not 100% sure) that it's Harold Hopkins as Ted Farrell. He would have been about 25. Does that seem right?
I don't know where the newsboy came from in the IMDb cast list. There isn't a newsboy in the cast in my copies. I think I'll have to audit them and check that the credits are all correct
Steve
Thank you, Steve. It is Harold Hopkins, indeed. I followed the link to the trailer of movie "Buddies" (1983) in which he plays Johnny and his is the same face as Ted Farrell's.

If you click on "more" at the end of the credits it will take you to a complete list of actors. Newsboy was played by Geoff Cartwright. Sergei
Yes, the IMDb cast list says that Geoff Cartwright plays "Newsboy".
But the credits on the film don't mention him.
At best, if he is in there, then he should be made (uncredited)
Otherwise that credit should just be removed.
Does anyone remember seeing a "Newsboy" in the film?
There's certainly not one there once Bradley gets to the island, so that excludes most of the film. Unless there's one when he goes to the store for supplies. Otherwise it'd have to be in the earlier scenes in Sydney
Steve
Steve,
here's a screenshot of the newsboy in the film (9:30 into the film, and that's Nat Kelly with the hat who just stepped off the tram): http://shrani.si/f/Z/w3/3KIg4D3H/newsboy.png
And here is the actor's credit in the film's end credits: http://shrani.si/f/1A/rg/22WKZXGX/credits.png
I hope this was helpful. :)
Thanks genij,
He is in my copy of the film - but he's not listed in the credits in my copy. My one goes straight from the Brisbane Birds (just listed by name) to the dogs, Lonsdale & Prince Nial.
But I'll leave him in the IMDb credits
Steve
This is certainly interesting and might qualify for a trivia entry, if not alternate versions. :-)
For what it's worth, my copy of the film came from a TCM broadcast.
If that's the recent TCM broadcast then that is already an alternate version. That's the one with the soundtrack by Peter Sculthorpe. They would have made new credits for that to replace Stanley Myers' name with Peter Sculthorpe's and it looks like they added Geoff Cartwright as the newsboy as well.
I'm in the UK but somebody recorded that TCM broadcast for me. But that doesn't have a scene index so if I'm just looking up a single scene I'll still tend to grab my old DVD of it which does have a scene index.
Steve
I think it was broadcast (in the US) around November last year and indeed, there is a prominent "Music composed by Peter Sculthorpe" credit in the opening credits.
shareThe newsboy was on the street in Brisbane by the trolley. He tried to sell Jack MacGowran, who played Nat Kelly, a newspaper, which Nat didn't want, when Nat got off the trolley.
