Realized how indoctrinated I was after watching a 1st season ep
First thing, I'm a parent of a 4 year old.
I watched the show in the late '70s and early '80s as a kid.
On a whim, I searched for Sesame Street on Amazon Prime the other night and watched the first episode that came up.
It's the episode with the little girl Sally being taken by Gordon around the neighborhood and up to his apartment for milk and cookies. While watching that scene I kept wondering where the parents were.
The other part that stood out was the kids walking on the boards while playing follow the leader. I actually cringed watching the kids walk on those boards.
I realized how indoctrinated I am to modern helicopter parenting. It is actually a depressing realization. Our parents wouldn't have thought much of either of those scenes back in the day.
While I still probably would have a hard time letting my 4 year old go to a stranger's house unescorted, I need to lighten up...
Conquer your fear, and I promise you, you will conquer death.
