I wish I could say I watched from day one but on
this date ,I was only age 1 and 5 months (plus about 2 weeks).

I can say I did start watching in early 1971 when I was still 2 (according to my parents). I watched all through childhood (instead of stopping at age 6 or 7 like other kids).

I remember all the weird things this show & The Electric company allowed on TV at the time, that now would be considered too disturbing for kids or just a bit wrong. (Like Ernie talking to that strange green guy in the raincoat.)

In fact ,every now & then, even in my teens I watched it, wondering what may be happening on the show that day. If I hadn't kept watching I'd have missed the wedding of Maria & Luis. I'd have missed the vacation to Hawaii and other notable times.

Even though it was very sad, I did see when Mr. Hopper passed
away and the adults had to teach Big Bird the most serious lesson ever.

I finally kind of drifted away from it once I got into the adult
world (as it should be). No Elmo in my era but he's been good for the kids.

The show overall was one of (if not 'the') the most important shows to come out of the late '60s,early1970s. It's Emmy's are all totally deserved and now with the original cast nearly gone, it's up to the more recent & newest cast members to carry the torch.

 Here's to Sesame Street, may it always be
a fixture on PBS and in the lives of generations of children.

Go for it or just be a gopher!
