I hope they will include much violence, nudity, profanity and drug abuse now. ;)

When was the last time you saw Elmo wear clothes?

This is deplorable news. Sesame Street needs to air on Public Television, not a premium channel like HBO. What was free yesterday costs money today, from bags on airplanes to Monday Night Football. An influential show like Sesame Street needs to be accessible to the broadest young audience as possible, not cater to wealthier people who can afford to pay for premium television.

It will still be on PBS for as long as it exists. This deal just means that it will air on HBO first and then it will play on PBS at a later date. HBO is giving them a much larger budget and allowing them to create basically double the original content that they would normally make in a single season. This is good for both PBS and HBO. Customers who enjoy both paid and free content end up winning from this. People need to stop acting like this is a bad thing.

It is, I believe in capitalism as the next hot blooded american, but like healthcare, education should be free. If Sesame Street is running out of money, they should simply can it and leave the show public domain, there is over 40 years of free good programming that should be left available to kids around the country. They want more money? They can still sell toys.

I just hope this 5 year contract doesn't mean Sesame Street is facing cancellation.
