They were all past the age of 70. Heck, Bob is 84! Obviously the couldn't be on the show forever but it would have been better if they could have just retired on their own terms. Hopefully Sesame Street will do a Goodbye show for them.

shareSure they could. Hell, Mr. Hooper was verrrrrry old on the show. He died on the show. It doesn't matter how old they were. They were kid show classics. They could indeed do it forever.

Mr Hooper was 74 when he passed away so that wasn't too old.
shareRegardless, they shouldn't have just been fired like that. Pushed aside like they were some background players that came in the 30th season. Bob, Gordon and Luis have been there since the show's start. Bob was there from Day 1. You don't kick aside long-time cast members like that. You treat them with the respect they deserve. Bob, Luis and Gordon have been teachers to generations of children. In fact, Bob taught me the Spanish word for "water". Didn't do it in a FANCY way, he plainly stated that water in Spanish is "agua." Simple.
Have you seen the recent season? The humans basically ARE background characters by this point!! I only have seen one or two at a time and that's near the end of the street scenes for maybe 2 minutes! Just get it over with, make the damn thing into a full fledged puppet show and rename it Elmo's Place.

I can honestly say I have absolutely no idea. Truth be known, I thought Bob had retired a long time ago, even before Maria. Ya hardly ever saw him, if you saw him at all!

sharejust because they are getting old does not give them the rights to kick them to the curb ! disgusted with what has happened to these actors who have given a lot to the show ! to me they should have been around at until the 50th anniversary then they could have had a proper sendoff ! but no they were kicked in the teeth and told to get lost your too old ! not very happy about this at all!
