Monty Python’s Life of Brian ‘extraordinary tribute to Jesus', says theologian decorated by Pope Francis http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/10543149/Monty-Pythons-Life-o f-Brian-extraordinary-tribute-to-Jesus-says-theologian-decorated-by-Po pe-Francis.html

Prof Burridge, whom Pope Francis recently presented with the Vatican’s top theological award, the first non-Roman Catholic to receive it, said that the film’s depiction of faction-ridden messianic movements in First Century Judea was probably a more accurate portrayal of the historical context than many Hollywood films about Jesus.

He was speaking as Michael Palin devoted a slot on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme, which he was invited to guest edit, to reliving the controversy over the film.

There's actually a movie about the controversy (Christians who thought LoB mocked Christ).

Generally positive reviews. On DVD and the usual downloads. Younger actor do good portrayal of Cleese and Palin.

It's quite good actually - saw it on TV on its first airing and also now have the DVD. Lots of Pythonesque humour, and yeah, the actor playing Michael Palin (Charles Edwards) is bang on the money - his looks and voice are eerily similar. Darren Boyd plays John Cleese, but basically does a Basil Fawlty impersonation (although this portrayal is also jokingly referred to in the film).

Definitely worth watching though, particularly for Python fans.
