... was green lighted BEFORE the segment,, NOT that the L,AS episode inspired ABC to create the series?
Anyone know for sure?

Gary Marshall made a pilot but it didn't sell initially.

But he sold the episode (not the rights to the series) to this show.

After American Graffiti (starring Ronny Howard) was released and became successful, Marshall was able to sell Happy Days to the network.
