It's a great show, there's always something to laugh at. FAAAAR better entertainment than anything people can come up with today.

Considering that the show was taped between 1969 and 1992 and continues to air today, it seems that you are in the minority.

It's ironic that CBS cancelled all its "hillbilly" shows in 1971 because they thought audiences wanted more sophisticated entertainment, only to see a return to "hillbilly" humor a decade later when Larry, Darryl, and Darryl hijacked Newhart.

Yes it is ironic that they were terminated even though they were popular. It was Fred Silverman who was in charge of these changes. Surprisingly, the programs that replaced these shows also became successful. And Fred Silverman was so successful making such programming decisions that all three major networks (NBC, CBS and ABC) hired him as an executive.

Ratings continued to be impressive after going into syndication and it stayed on the air 20 years (and on right now on RFD-TV)...Not many shows can say that...
