My unofficial review

Hee Haw was one of those shows that I think a lot of people I knew were embarrased to admit they watched. Why? Because it was a country show, and the urban and suburban folks who watched it probably had a bit too much "city pride" to admit to liking the corny gags and country music.

For me I kind of liked the humor, but thought the music a little tiring simply because I wasn't into country music at the time. Today, being an adult, I don't mind a country tune every now and then, but I'm not a big country music fan.

The other truth is the only reason I watched the show was for the hot "farmer's daughters" that appeared regularly on the show. Ho-boy, :-) These girls had a kind of charm and appeal that you can only find in America's farm belt.

Beyond that, I don't have too much to say about the show. Junior was worth a grin, and Grandpa Jones as well. I always enjoyed Roy Clarke, and saw him live a couple times here in the bay area, once during the Shriner's game down at Stanford just after New Years.

Corny jokes, a warm welcoming feeling, and some very attractive women. A bit of a mixed bag for us city-slickers, but I enjoyed it as a kid.

Blueghost, It comes on at my Dad's town, central time 7pm on Sunday nights. The channel he gets is RFD-TV. You might call on your provider to carry this station. It seems to be getting more popular.

Just got done watching it Sherry. Watched it every week when I was young. Didn't quite understand the jokes back then so like to watch it now to see what was so funny. Had a crush on the Hager Twins back then but now question myself in regards to their hairstyles (yes it was in back then).lol Love this show.

Hi MsGAPeach, haha, I know what you mean about those hairstyles. I had looked up the Hager twins a while back. They both had died already as I recall.
Some of the wigs the ladies wore in all of the old shows were pretty horrible.
I have noticed the HiDef programs bring out some really bad sights now, LOL.
Also, I hate the way one of my teen grandsons hair looks. Unfortunately, I remember the guys I dated in the 70s, as a teen, having hair at least as long as my Tyler's.

I just saw a couple of episodes on Youtube from their debut back in 69. You know, they just don't make shows like this anymore. It was corny as heck, but you loved it. I love the two guys singing in front of the fence, Junior, Granpa, Lulu and what's-his-name doing the mock soap opera with the organ music...and the original gossip girls, what a hoot. Pickin'-and-grinnin', and I had a massive heart throb of a crush on Kathy Baker...I don't care who knows!

It was corny AND sophisticated all at once. Clever and clean, and you just don't see that anymore.

The Barber Shop ... Junior's used car commercials ... "Hey Grandpa! What's for supper!"

When I'd spend time in the valley or up in the Sierras or Rockies, all you heard was country and western, and Hee Haw was a ray of sunshine when you got ODeed on C&W music. It was a show that said "Yeah, we know we're country, but so are you at heart, and we can poke fun at ourselves no matter where we come from."

And that's why I liked Hee Haw. Look, I'm a Star Trek and Star Wars kind of guy. After I left the valley I grew up in the Bay Area learning about computers, science, physics, growing up in the shadow of Lucas in Marin, and all the Star Wars "exclusives" that trickled all over the Bay Area. I'm a suburban city kind of guy, but I still love Hee Haw.

Dammit...next paycheque, Hee Haw DVDs!
