He's ugly... REALLY UGLY!

What was the purpose of this scene? It seems so out of character for a group of "good guys" to launch a creature out just for being ugly. The poor little critter was even crying when it was jettisoned.
A friend of mine speculated that the intent was to bring the viewer through every emotion at one point or another during the film, including anger. Anyone else have any ideas?

I'm not sure why it was included, but that scene always bothered the heck out of me too. It is out of place, and you do feel for the creature.

It always struck me as very rude to do in a childrens film. I kept waiting for them to do SOMETHING to make up for that. Kicking someone out and making them cry just because they think its ugly?!?!? WHO thought that was a good idea to leave in?

Randomness and anarchy are the name of the game here. I think they just thought it would be funny to have them, out of nowhere, just decide it was ugly.

Yeah, that scene always puzzled me too. That monster isn't any uglier than Jeremy, after all.

But, the good news is that the monster seems to smile after he's jettisoned back out into the sea of monsters, so maybe he was just sad about being suddenly much smaller and stuck in a yellow submarine? Maybe after he was jettisoned and got bigger he thought, "Wow, thank God I'm away from those bigoted jerks!"
