The cinematography was almost superb. Way up there on the list. Camera use, editing, the melding from one scene to the next, and too, the controversial multi-screen images. Visually a beauty. The chess scene, the movements, facial expressions, the kiss that goes round and round into a multicolor light show, then, (if I recall) to the quiet sand dune grass shot to the roar of the dune buggy.
Also, part of the beauty is the lack of whizz bang special effects. It was all done with simple cameras. Sure, for todays viewers it lacks constant action.
But it will remain in the history of cinema a very good film.
