Other Stylish movies

Hi everyone,

At the beginning of the movie Norman Jewison commentaries mention that it is an exercise in style.
And one that was very well done. Almost in the same spirit of Jazz the music in the movie. The images are jazzy as well as the music.

It made me think of another heist movie, which is also stylish: The Soderberg Ocean's movies... Those one too have jazzy music with some stylish clothing and photography also.

There is also some hitchcock 50s movies that have style, like Jewison says in the commentary, Cary Grant did some like : To catch a thief. or those too were stylished : Charade, North by Northwest. Or some of the first James Bond in the 60s were stylish too.
I like also Melville : Le samourai, a stylish movie but with less bling.

Any other recent movies comes to mind?

Thanks

I find most good movies from the 1960's stylish and I'm not sure why. I just love the era, even though I was born near 1980.

Steve McQueen is sylish in general and I do know of a couple of good stylish movies but they've slipped my mind, sorry. Start with McQueen films though, you're likely to find something there.

Thanks I agree, there was some obvious choice that were made then about style "almost" over containt.
And that's what I was looking for. Now they are more subtle about it. Or I just missed those movie that made that choice.

You mention Hitchcock films like To Catch a Thief and North by Northwest. Yes they are stylish, but also feature great performances, sparkling dialogue and a degree of suspense ... all of which are lacking in this film.🐭

A lot of 60s French movies were very stylish. At one end you had the French New Wave like Godard's "À bout de souffle", with its radical editing treatment. This was a major influence on films like Arthur Penn's "Bonnie & Clyde", which was also very stylish. At the other end you had Melville's "Le samouraï" or "Le Cercle Rouge" both of which have a feel not unlike the original Thomas Crown Affair. You should see Le Cercle Rouge if you haven't already. It's another heist movie.

I need to check those out jd….never been much of a forgein film buff although i have friends who really love them…thanks!

Wow…so many to list…Hitchock’s films definitely had style…both the leading men and women….Some were listed above.

High Society comes to mind and dont laugh….but the soundtrack, the set design and of course….the clothes from Devil Wears Prada is all very chic…love the music…Now Voyager is another good one, from the set designs and the fabulous costumes… ….and All About Eve’s characters were definetly stylish….but still not THE ones I am searching for at this moment…lol
