Any fans?
Love this film. Burt Lancaster is as always amazing. Has anyone here at MC seen it?
shareI saw it eons ago and hate to pee in anyone's (let alone your) Cheerios, but I hated it. A guy swims though pools in suburbia and …?
If you love it, and think Lancaster is great in it, by all means continue to think so :). But for me it was a dud.
I respect your feelings. I can even understand why many feel that this film is a dud.
I guess I just like going on this journey with this guy only to find out that he really isn't in his right mind.
Watch it again Cat. There's more to it than swimming. I like how he comes across people from his past while pool hopping.
shareI was being somewhat tongue-in-cheek there, Bwb. I realize there was more to it than a guy swimming across suburbia in his neighbors' pools … but not much, IMO. No way am I going to endure watching it again! I respect your opinion (and MissMargo's) for enjoying the film, I just don't.

shareLove this movie
shareI do enjoy this film. It's not the kind of thing I can watch all the time, though. I have to be in the right frame of mind.
I first became aware of "The Swimmer" as a fan of Mad Men, finding out that author John Cheever's work had some influence on Mad Men, and that this film is an adaptation of a Cheever short story. There are definitely thematic similarities.
Interesting!
I Saw this movie on network TV when i was about 14 or 15. It was in the early 70's. I saw that it was based on a written story, so off to the library I went! Good story. Great movie!
As a fan of Mad Men, I was unaware of the influence. Looking at Don Draper's life though, I can see it!
Yes, I just watched it today. Excellent film, a 9/10 from me.
