Anybody interested in a Swimmer event?

I don't plan to organize this event, but it was just a thought that came to me...

For fans of this film, or for Cheever fans, what if a group of people got together yearly to recreate Ned's trek across the county, swimming in pools along the way? It wouldn't have to be set in Connecticut, although that would make it more authentic. All it would require is a group of people who wouldn't mind loaning out their pools to event members for one day per year. For adults it could be just an excuse to get drunk one day with friends. For the health-minded it could be a way to get a lot of exercise. For charities (especially AA or mental health?) it could be a way to raise money like the Walk for Mankind style walks. For the fashion-minded it could be a way to show off new swimwear. For film fans, it could be a way to experience the movie more authentically. For the introspective, it could be a time of insight/enlightenment. For homeowners (or real estate salespeople?) it could be a way to get their homes in the TV news. For film producers (or video stores) it could be a way to advertise the film. For horse lovers it might even be a way to see some horses.

The symbol for the event might be a marigold. Only registered members could participate and use the pools. It could generate some news coverage. Maybe the location of the event could change yearly, or if it's popular enough, it could be held simultaneously in different places through the U.S. I haven't decided what a good climactic final destination/event of such a walk would be. Maybe positive, like a party, or maybe negative and thoughtful?

Whaddya think? Too weird, or a viable idea?

The only thing I'd be worried about would be safety. Over-exertion too often brings heart attacks to those not in shape for such a venture. Look at the common news item of the police officer dying in a charity or training run See the charity website www.odmp.org to see how many officers (some in their early thirties, even) fall victim.

However, this would be really cool to do just as long as a health check is given to those who particpate and some lifeguards go along, too. Perhaps different groups such as runners, slow joggers, and walkers could be set up.

A good idea but in the film at one of the pools the owners are nudists and Ned has to remove his bathing suit. I don't want to have to show my posterior at the event.

count me in, even the nudist pool! i am in the uk but would travel. i am sure a documentery film production would be interested in funding, or a co production perhaps. perhaps the pool owners would be the hardest to win over.

I'm in the UK too. Maybe there should be 1 in UK & US?? Mind you, our warm season consists of around a week & a half soooo...
