An Amazing Movie
That's really it. I just loved it so much. At the start I thought it was very strange and was waiting for it to become terrible. But as it drew on-- I think maybe in the scene with Julie I started to really love it. And Burt Lancaster is so underrated, every little thing he does it so perfect and behind that beautiful false smile his eyes really show the confused pain Ned is in. I really want to read the story now to truly see how well he portrayed the character but really even if the film is a terrible adaption I'd still love it and see it on its own. Few films have that kind of dreamy wonder and have made such an impact on me
BUT I just wanted to share an alternate opinion-- my grandfather was watching it with me (I'm 18, he's 73) and he HATED IT!! it was hilarious, every two seconds he was sighing and when Burt did the jump and sprained his leg, he whispered 'I hope he breaks his *beep* leg' really loudly! I just found it funny how divisive this film could be and how it could really provoke such a strong negative reaction. He didn't even acknowledge the cinematography or music or location, but simply said it was the worst thing he'd ever seen.
