At Shirley Abbott's pool, Ned twice mentions Bullshots. I was unfamiliar with this drink so I looked it up. It's also spelled "Bull Shot." Anyway, here's the recipe if anyone's interested... and if we're not running out of Tabasco. :-)

Bullshot

Type:
Cocktail
Ingredients:

* 2 oz. Vodka
* 4 oz. Beef Bouillon (Cold)
* 1 tsp. Lemon Juice (Fresh)
* 4 dashes of Worcestershire Sauce
* Tabasco Sauce (To taste)
* Celery Salt (To taste)
* Pepper (Freshly ground and to taste)

Instructions:

Mix with ice cubes in a highball glass.

Bloody Marys are also improved with a splash of beef bouillon.

The perfect accompaniment for the "Swimmer" drinking game. Every time Ned asks for a drink, you take one!

The Bullshot must've been popular in 1968, as another film that year, "Lady in Cement" has Raquel Welch mentioning the drink to Frank Sinatra, whose character didn't know what that was.

That must have been the happenin' drink of 1968. I wonder if anyone orders a bullshot these days, and if they do, do bartenders even have the right ingredients like beef bullion?

Also, the Freddy Fudpucker was a popular cocktail in the late '60's:

Freddy Fudpucker

1 oz. Tequilla
1/2 oz. Galliano
Orange Juice

Pour the tequilla into a collins glass filled with ice and fill with orange juice, stir. Float the galliano on top.

As well as the Harvey Wallbanger:

Harvey Wallbanger

This Galliano spiked Screwdriver is rumored to have been named after Harvey, a surfer who loved them so much he drank them all the time. Consequently, he was always walking into walls as well! Widely popular in the late 60's and early 70's this refreshing cocktail is timeless.
Fill a Collins or Highball glass with ice,

1 oz. Vodka
Fill with Orange Juice
Float 1/2 oz. Galliano

Garnish - Orange Slice

I remember these drinks because my Mom loved Galliano and our Rec room actually had a Harvey Wallbanger poster on the wall.

If I can mention that I make a Bull Shot with Kitchen Basics Unsalted Beef Stock:

It makes the drink vastly superior, rather than using those tiny, square, sticky buillion cubes. You can find this stock in the soup section of many large chain supermarkets. There is a "Find A Store" link on their website to see what store carries it in your area.

I love KitchenBasics stocks, and I too use their beef stock for this purpose.

I remember seeing an ad for Smirnoff vodka featuring this drink/recipe in my sister's Cosmopolitan magazine, circa 1968. The cool, rich people in the ad looked just like the cool, rich people in the film.

Hmm, sounds like a drink for alcoholics. Often serious alcoholics rarely eat anything. If they drank this they would at least get some protein in their diet. Maybe by using this drink they're trying to say he drinks too much?

I dunno, this is just another savory/salty cocktail like Bloody Marys.
