The Ram's Games Shown in 'The Split'

First game is versus the Falcons on Sunday, December 3, 1967. At one point you can hear an announcer say the Rams have won 20-3. That was the actual final score, but the all players' names you hear on the soundtrack are ficticious.

Second game is against the Packers on Saturday, December 9. The Rams, needing a win to force a showdown with the Colts the following week, pulled it out in the final minute, 27-24. They went on to beat the Colts, but then lost to Packers in the first round of the playoffs.

Since the producers needed footage from two games they probably chose these because it was the first time that season the Rams were home on consecutive weeks. They would have been able to do some other filming on site during the week and wrap the whole location shoot in seven days.

None of the above would make sense to anyone who has watched the NFL only since the merger with the AFL. Pre-1970, the Rams, Colts, & Packers were all members of the "Western Conference," joined by the expansion Falcons in 1967.

May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?

That is incorrect. The conferences had been split, with two divisions of 4 teams in each conference, for a total of 16 teams. There was a divisional play-off of the first place teams, within each conference. The winners played for the NFL championship. That team played the AFL champion in the Super Bowl.

Green Bay 28 Los Angeles 7
Dallas 52 Cleveland 14

Green Bay 21 Dallas 17 (legendary game referred to as the "Ice Bowl" because of the frigid Green Bay weather)

Super Bowl II
Green Bay 33 Oakland 14

I wondered if they filmed before during or after the games or a combination of all three. And what they told the audience about note pointing and yelling "hey, there's Jim Brown!"
