I watched "Shaliko" last night on TCM and thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't notice any of that stuff like Brigitte's hair length, etc. But as I often do, I fell asleep right at the end. Can someone tell me if Connery and Bardot die at the end? Or kiss? Or what. Thanks, Lenny.
All the people who rode off in the stagecoach were killed except for Fulton, who rode off and watched all of his compadres being killed. Shalako's group climbed a mountain, got water, and prepared to fight the Indians who rode up from the other side. Stephen Boyd's character, Fulton, joined the group, and he and Sir Charles killed each other. The Indians killed Hans and Buffalo. Chato came up and challenged Shalako. Shalako, of course, won. Shalako and the countess rode off into the sunset with their beautiful horses that somehow magically appeared. The others rode off the reservation with their horses that also magically appeared.
The horses didn't appareared magically. After Shalako won the duel with Chato, Rojas received horses from the Apaches, soon after Chato said: "You killed me today.", to his father.
Mde me kinda raise an eyebrow. Must've been a mesa or something because they couldn't get their horses up the hill, but the apaches (whom they were running from, and went up the hill to get away from) suddenly had horses at the top.
With that said, it's an old school cowboy movie, most were pretty dumb. What made laugh was the Indians invading the fort, jumping over the wall yipping and yapping and screaming, and then getting shot. They should have just went in silently (like that one Indian did) and killed them quietly, would have been much more effective,.... But not as much fun to watch I guess ;)
It wasn't a great movie, for sure, but I don't think it was as terrible as many on this board seem to think. You gotta watch it for what it was, and old school cowboy movie, and enjoy it on that level.
Bardot was friggin' hot in her day though,... ouch.
Worth watching to have a look at Bardot and not much else really.Stephen Boyd is good and the relationship with Blackman could have been interesting-she likes having rolls in the hay doesn`t she!I presume she was killed because ITV4 censored the print in a recent screening:an Apache kneels beside her realising she`s alive, picks up some sand from the floor and that`s it.I`d thought she`d been taken prisoner or something but a later shot shows her body.Presume she was suffocated but anyone know?
Honor Blackman tries to save herself by giving jewellry to an Indian who chokes her with it and the sand. The film's interest ends with La Blackman's exit.
