Rosemary's Abortion...

in the case of rape or incest!

reply

Rosemary had no idea what the baby was until after it was born and she saw what it looked like in the crib.

reply

true, but she had strong suspicions about how she got pregnant

reply

No she didn’t..

reply

She thought that they wanted to kill the baby

reply

If she doesn't want an abortion then she doesn't have to get one. Her body her choice right?

reply

movie was made pre-roe (1968) when abortion was prohibited in several states, women lacked choice, which in part is why the movie is terrifying. The idea is that a pregnancy in your own body you cannot and do not have control over is terrifying.

She is raped in the film by Satan as her husband and others watch? Her husband is not alarmed by the rape and wants her to conceive. Watching in the me too era, this is frankly disgusting and it does not even pass as art. If anybody's husband just watched today while a spouse was drugged and raped they'd probably be charged as an accomplice to a crime.

reply

Her husband was the one who made the deal. He would allow his wife to be raped and carry Satan's baby in exchange for a successful acting career.

reply

This is only the “me too era” if we allow it to be. I reject and revile the notion.

reply

She didn’t know she had been raped. She thought the baby was Guy’s.

reply

Maybe this was considered a pro-abortion movie when it came out or illustrated a need to legalize abortion at the time

reply

Roman Polanski wasn't a feminist

Actually he's had a string of sexual abuse..etc allegations attached to him. So I'm inclined to believe the woman being victimized/abused by others in her world was supposed to arouse and turn on audiences.

We of course have a different reaction because we don't find that world appealing. We don't find it 'art' And we would not want to live in those conditions either. Women being controlled by others ultimately ended up not being entertaining.
