Estelle Parsons made a memorable lesbian

Wow! That was a very touching, sensitive, and mature portrayal of a lesbian character by Estelle Parsons. I loved how their friendship remained intact at the end and when Rachel says to her that she wished she can be different for her. My only question is shy would Calla (Estelle's character) remain in such a repressive town where she would have no chance of finding love.

I also find it coincidental that Estelle would play gay again in the last season of Rosanne as an elderly lesbian.

I thought Estelle Parsons's acting was the highlight of the movie. Joanne Woodward was good but Estelle really broke my heart.

I felt like Rachel used Calla. OK, an unwanted kiss from someone you never imagined as anything but a platonic friend is off-putting. But after that she avoided Calla, not even having that one talk with her that Calla said she wished for out in the driveway--until she needed her. Then, when Rachel needed Calla, she was perfectly willing to be alone with Calla in her apartment late at night.

Calla encouraged her to follow her heart, helped her get a job out of state, saw her off on the bus. Calla helped Rachel do what she, Rachel, wanted, with no thought for herself. Rachel only seemed to think of Calla when she needed something. I thought Calla was a much better friend to Rachel than Rachel was to her.

I forgot, Estelle played Blanche in Bonnie & Clyde. She was memorable as a lonely lesbian and as a gangster's moll. She's a scene stealer, no doubt about it.

Her glasses reminded me of "Where's Waldo." Love Estelle Parsons. They were throwing gay around all over the place on Roseanne; frankly, I think they were desperate for plot lines.

My impression was that Calla was just as surprised by the kiss as Rachel, so maybe she didn't realize she was gay until then.
