Any thoughts on her strange relationship with her father?

Something more seemed to be going on. Was it simply that he was emotionally cold ( e.g. "Love me, love me") or something else? I went through half the film inferring that he had molested her as a child resulting in her difficulty forming intimate relationships with men. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

I sort of got that vibe too, but there was nothing in the movie to actually point to that. Then again, it was the '60s and a very risky topic to broach. I took it as he was emotionally dead to her even when he was alive.
