Frank Sinatra + Jackie Gleason . . . maybe?

I came across this item and thought I'd share it with everyone; though it is hard to believe: Frank Sinatra and Jackie Gleason? In the "Odd Couple"?:

Chicago American, Tuesday, July 20, 1965:

DALY DIARY

by Maggie Daly

"Frankly Speaking . . . Frank Sinatra and Jackie Gleason will film "The Odd Couple" next spring or summer when Jackie finishes his season of television shows in Miami. When he was first sounded out on the film 5 months ago, Gleason was offered the role that Art Carney plays on Broadway. He refused it and said he wouldn't do any of Art's roles because they are such good friends. And so he will play the Walter Matthau part.

Even tho some say Sinatra and Gleason's will be called "Slimbo and Fatso" for the film, Bob Hope has given Gleason a new name. He calls him "Flab Galore."

Sinatra has incorporated Gleason's "teacup act" in his concert and night club routines. Gleason just laughs it off."

I'm not sure if this duo would've worked . . . ?

Would have made for an interesting in-joke: just before the Pigeon Sisters arrive, Oscar asks which music would be more appropriate--Mancini or Sinatra?

"And me? I go on to become a big star in Italian Westerns."
