They should have had Johnny as a zombie later in the movie

I've always felt like answers about what ever happened to Johnny were needed.

You do see him as a zombie at the end of the movie.

Yeah, he is there when Barbara gets taken by the zombie horde. I recognized his driving gloves.
Also I'm pretty sure I saw that first zombie, from the cemetery, there at the end as well.

Correct, both the original cemetery zombie and the Johnny zombie show up at the end. If I remember correctly (watched this again last week sometime), seeing the original zombie is what sets Barbara off at the end, but then she sees Johnny and actually shouts his name, which is a good indicator if you watch again as to when he shows up.

Johnny's like Clark Kent, all he has to do is take off his glasses and nobody recognizes him.
