When did you first see this? Where were you? What did you think?

The first time was in the early 80's. It was part of some Halloween late night thing on a cable channel. I'd heard of it, but never saw it. We had some friends over so we made popcorn, brought out the beer, and watched it on TV.
Great fun! Great movie!

That grave yard in the beginning is very much like the one where my mother is laid to rest..... The same approach from the road leading to it. I was struck by that immediately!

First time I saw it, I was the projectionist. It was in college, around 1978, and I was in the Student Union. Volunteered to be the projectionist for movies, and this was one of them. I didn't think it was that scary, and I remember some joker in the audience shouting, "They're in the mood for some dark meat!" when the zombies started going after the protagonist. That got everyone laughing.

Also showed Wizard of Oz that year, and it was an incredible experience seeing it on the big screen in color after watching it on TV for so many years.

I saw it in the 70s on late night TV. It was disturbing but also riveting. Most of the horror stuff I'd run into was classic, and the creatures were more theatrical than wordless, relentless flesh eaters. It almost had that War Of The Worlds feeling to it, filmed like a documentary that could have happened. Even now I hesitate to watch it, it's so awful and suspenseful.
Oddly enough, it reminds me a little of the short movie The Lottery. They have a cinema verite style that makes the awful subject material that more realistic.

I saw it for the first time when I was six years old. This was around 1999 or so and I saw it as a late night movie on TV. It was completely uncut and I was both terrified and fascinated by the movie, watching it all the way to the very end.

I first saw this movie with my sister at the theater in 1973 or early 1974. It was the first film in a double feature with The Other. I must say that opening graveyard scene had a powerful and terrifying affect on my ten year old brain that still lingers today at age 59!
I couldn’t stop talking about it to all my friends and was elated when it aired on Late night TV in 75.I was in Connecticut so this was a New York station.
Still one of my favorite horror movies and the first one to really scare me.
I had the honor of meeting George Romero a few years ago at a horror convention and thanked him for scaring the shit out of me when I was 10. He was very sick at the time but was still engaged and enthusiastic about The sub genre of zombie horror he created.

AS A KID...MY GRANDPARENTS HAD A VHS COLLECTION...I LOVED IT...IGNITED A LIFELONG PASSION FOR ZOMBIES AND ROMERO THAT I STILL HAVE TODAY.

Late night tv, when I was a kid. I thought it was fascinating.

If it was 1976, I would have been 7 and my older sister would have been 12. That lines up with my memory. It was a big deal to my sister, I remember she talked about it for like the whole week before it was on. My family was at my grandma's out in the desert that weekend. The only thing I specifically remember is the dead body with the face ripped off inside the house. Likely I don't remember anything else because someone decided I was way too young to be watching it.
