What is the running time of this movie?????????

According to Leonard Maltin, this movie runs 98 min.

The BlackStar DVD (as WITCHFINDER GENERAL, supposedly uncut) runs 82 min.

I have read 79 min, 86 min, 87 min, 89 min on different review sites.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA HOW LONG THE UNCUT VERSION OF THIS MOVIE RUNS?????

Justin

The version I have is meant to be fully uncut and it runs at 82 minutes.

Just exactly what do you think you're doing, Dave?

my copy is 82 mins, which seems to be fully uncut with the scenes that were cut replaced from another European print, you can see where these scenes are as the picture quality is different

I just purchased the Australian import DVD of this. It contains two versions of the film. The 82 minute US version and an 86 minute Uncut version.

I rented the DVD in Brazil and the runtime is 86 minutes 37 seconds.

yep, same (though I rented it) two version 82 + 86 minutes, the cut scenes are very tame by todays standards.
If youve only seen the cut version dont feel like youve missed anything with the uncut version

i have the brazil DVD which runs 87 min.,
but i cannot say if it is really uncut,
some scenes still seem cut to me, i.e. the burning scene and the self-doctoring scene, in both the shocking images seem to be missing! -
so where is the really uncut version???
in Leonard Maltins Movie Guide it is stated with 98 minutes(!?) but never saw a version with more than 87 minutes runtime...

Leonard Maltin frequently gets the running times of British films wrong, so don't place much faith in his "98 minutes."

The solution is actually pretty simple. When run at its correct projection speed, the full-length film runs just under 87 minutes. This is how it would be seen in theaters.

But the Region 2 DVD was converted into PAL video format, which always causes a 4% speed-up in the running time. (NTSC video, which is the system used in the Americas, does not cause this speed-up.) Thus the PAL videos run about 82 and a half minutes. You're not missing anything; the film is just running slightly fast. (If anyone has "perfect pitch," you'll notice that the music score and Vincent Price's voice are pitched about a semi-tone higher because of the speed-up.) This is an avoidable shortcoming of the PAL video system.
