Is this the film where?

Does anyone know if this is the film where a woman (who is a witch) has sex whilst everyone watches, outside by a castle or ruins? If not can anyone tell me what film it is.

POSSIBLE SPOILER

I came to this board with the same question. I haven't seen this movie in over 20 years, but I vaguely remember Price's character having sex with a prostitute or witch or someone. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable with chime in with the answer.

There's no scene in the film where a witch has sex while everyone watches. There is a scene where Sarah Lowes (Hilary Dwyer) is raped by John Sterne, Hopkins' assistant, but that takes place in a field with only an unpleasant neighbour looking on!

Matthew Hopkins (Vincent Price) has sex with Sarah Lowes (the character wasn't a witch or a prostitute), as she offers herself to him to try to persuade him not to have her uncle executed. That scene is in Sarah's bedroom.

I can't think of a film where a witch has sex with others watching. Best of luck in tracing that one.

Thank you for clearing this up! One of these days I will track down the movie and watch it again.

Glad to help. If I ever come across the 'witch having sex in public' thing, I'll let you know!

I'm presuming you're in the States, so if you do get hold of a copy of Witchfinder General, try to get the original UK version - I gather that the music for the US version is different to the original score, and the original theme is just wonderful! Here's a link to my slideshow on YouTube with a version of the beautiful love theme (this version was released as a single record in 1968; it's not the version that's used in the film). The writer of this beautiful music is Paul Ferris, and he was in the film (under his acting name of Morris Jarr). I included a couple of shots of him in the slideshow, just after the witch-burning scene.

And this is a clip from the film with that beautiful love theme.

Enjoy - and go get the film!!!

Can someone put pics up of the sex scenes to see if it's the same film please.

reply

I remember now the guy forces himself on her and everyone stands there watching.

And the young girl devil-worshipper is none other than Mrs Edward 'Wicker Man' Woodward herself, Michelle Dotrice. Some mothers do 'ave 'em, alright...

that's just what I was thinking: 'that sounds like Blood On Satan's Claw.'

Out of interest: the music for Blood is available allot easier and for allot less money than The Which Finder General. Have a look at the web site for Trunk Records and email Johnny Trunk to see if he'll release The Which Finder General music too ;)

don't jump of buildings, even if it is fun.

That piece of music reminds me very much of Ennio Morricone.

Anybody know what movie this was? I've been trying to find it. A "witch" is tied to a large wagon wheel, the wheel is set on fire and rolled down a hillside. I think it was made in the 1970s. Anybody know what it was?

reply

I think there's a scene in CRY OF THE BANSHEE (also starring Price) wherein a suspected witch is tied to a wagon wheel and burned, but I'm not sure whether the wheel is set to rolling. Could this be the one you're remembering?

reply

Mark of the Devil?

reply

The wagon wheel scene sounds like Devonsville Terror to me, especially if you look at the cover of the VHS box:

A European version of Witch-finder General for the German market had some gratuitous nudity edited in after the film was finished. Maybe that was the version you saw?

reply

You're thinking of Ken Russell's "The Devils" (1971).

reply

Almost certainly you're thinking of Blood on Satan's Claw.

The setting was very similar to that of Witchfinder General.
