My favorite part of the movie

The music. John Barry, perhaps best known for his music in the first several James Bond movies, won an Oscar for his music, and I think he well deserved it.

reply

Yes, agreed, added to all the other positives in this great movie.

My favourite was "Eleanore, Regina Anglorum" especially as her barge sailed up river to Chinon. Almost spine-tingling. The camera work at that point was also superb.

reply

Totally agree. I saw the film when it was first released and I've wanted to be rowed up the Loire enthroned in the back of a barge to the sound of plainchant ever since.

reply

Yes exactly, syntinen. Such a beautiful scene. For me, captured mediaeval times of the late 12thC. What a splendid Queen Kate made and the gentle music as near perfect as one can achieve.
May I join you on that barge sailing serenely up the Loire, or is it one of these moments to be savoured 'tout seul', as balm to one's soul? :)

reply

One must wonder if the chanting during the opening credits provided any inspiration for the Omen score.

Take him to the little room...for the questioning.

I've only just realised I never responded to your post. Forgive me!

One couldn't possibly do this alone - one's standing and self-respect positively require at least a few attendant knights and ladies, maybe a couple of relatives who may be planning either to marry one or throw one off the barge attached to a heavy stone, and if necessary one's jailer. So much more amusing than a solitary trip.....

So, feel free to cast yourself in any of those roles!

reply

I'd have to be a knight then! :))

This scene is so beautiful, and how Kate conveyed her serenity, femininity, and regality. Superb.
The music add so much at just the right moments ; I will say again, this film was a triumph throughout.
Let's not forget the excellent cinematography in so many parts, specifically this very scene. How many days did they have to await this ideal weather I have pondered?

reply

It's great, but my favorite thing is without a doubt the script.

reply

Exactly, the script was outstanding. Rare to meet a similar standard nowadays. I can recall so many quotable lines.
Also of a high standard, but not quite meeting this film's, was The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.

reply

I cannot think of a single film to match this film that way. Some scripts match it because of their story, yes, but in terms of dialogue, never seen it. (And we've all seen a xhole lot of movies on this site)
