O'Toole made that part his own and imho, no actor has bettered it since.

Please don't disregard the fact that O'Toole was portraying the most powerful person on the face of the earth. What might be considered hammy acting was necessarily the character of a man who needed to be over the top in every word and deed, in order to maintain such an empire.
