WHich is your FAVORITE line?

Every sentence of this masterpiece is either wity, funny, sarcasitic, poetic, dramatic, or just plane awesome. Anyway - their all top notch! Thank god they got actors worthy of them! Post your favorites. This might help: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063227/quotes

My favorite are:

Prince Geoffrey: I know. You know I know. I know you know I know. We know Henry knows, and Henry knows we know it.
[smiles]
We're a knowledgeable family.

[Upon seeing his wife after she arrives for Christmas Court]
Henry II: HA! What shall we hang... the holly, or each other?

Eleanor: In a world where carpenters get resurrected, everything is possible.

[first lines]
Henry II: Come for me!

reply

Eleanor: Henry?
Henry II: Hmmm?
Eleanor: I have a confession.
Henry II: Yes?
Eleanor: I don't much like our children!

AND

Prince John: A knife! He's got a knife!
Eleanor: Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It's 1183 and we're barbarians!

I absolutely love this movie!

Brave new world that has such people in it! - The Tempest

Eleanor: I had, at one time, many appetites. I wanted poetry and power and the young men who create them both. I even wanted Henry, too, in those days. Now I've only one desire left... to see you king.

Richard: The only thing you want to see is father's vitals on a bed of lettuce.

Eleanor: Henry was 17 when we met, and I was queen of France. He came down from the north to Paris with a mind like Aristotle's... and a form like mortal sin. We shattered the commandments on the spot.

Henry: The Vexin is mine, it’s got my troops all over it and that’s what makes it mine.

reply

"Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It's 1183 and we're barbarians! How clear we make it. Oh, my piglets, we are the origins of war: not history's forces, nor the times, nor justice, nor the lack of it, nor causes, nor religions, nor ideas, nor kinds of government, nor any other thing. We are the killers."

I had chills after watching her deliver this line. My God, Kate was talented.

After reading through this whole thread I was glad at least one of my favorite bits wasn't yet mentioned:

Eleanor: Where's Henry?
Richard: Upstairs with the family whore.
Eleanor: That's a fine way to talk about your fiance.
John: My fiance.
Eleanor: Whosever fiance.

reply

Wow! How about we just incude the entire script because it is all just brilliant. Modern day Shakespere.

"Eleanor, what do you want?"

"Just what you want, a king for a son. You can make more, I can't. You think I want to disappear? One son is all I've got, and you can blot him out and call me cruel? For these ten years you've lived with everything I've lost, and loved another woman through it all, and I am cruel? I could peel you like a pear and God Himself would call it justice!"

The Lion in Winter is one of 4 movies that, sadly, I begin speaking along with the actors and say every single line in the movie.

I can recite every line, and they are ALL gold. Some for their wit, some, like many of Geoffrey's for their melancholy. God I love this movie.

(the other 3 movies are A Man for All seasons, Cassablanca and Henry V with Branagh)

Me too. This one, "The Women" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf."

Truth is a hard master, and costly to serve, but it simplifies every problem.

Henry's whole "My life, when it is written, will read better than it lived" speech.

Jesus is my Best friend, but he still won't loan me money.

reply

(Eleanor putting on her crown, sees Geoffrey at the door): Is it too much? Be sure to squint as you approach, you may be blinded by my beauty.

Jesus is my Best friend, but he still won't loan me money.

Eleanor: Henry, I have a confession to make. I don't much like our children."

"It's not an old movie if you haven't seen it." Lauren Bacall

How could one pick one line from this triumph of a movie - I gave it 10.
The entire script was inspired.

Richard to Eleanor: "Here stands your lamb. Come cover him with kisses, he's all yours"

It wasn't that I found this line especially witty, but I liked the fact that Richard confronted his mom.

As far as witty lines go, I think I liked it when Henry said to Eleanor... "I'm villifying you, PAY ATTENTION!"

reply

Eleanor: "And I thought you loved her?"
King Henry: "So I do..."
Eleanor: "Thank god you frightened me, I thought this wasn't going to hurt!"
