The Film's Success in the US
Can anyone tell me how this film fared in the US market? Was it well received? What did it gross? Any links to any reviews?
shareFrom what I heard it did good business in major cities on the East and West Coast like NY, California and Massachusetts but bombed everywhere else. The X rating it had didn't help. I read in an article (sorry--I don't have the link) that lines were around the block in Boston MA when it played there.
It was well-received by most critics but a lot had trouble with the seduction scene (which wasn't in the play). I think when it was reissued in 1972 with an R rating it was more popular.
