but on stage this was a four-character, one-set play! The scene with the nuns was discussed in the play but not shown - some portions of the dialog were re-assigned to scenes outside of the apartment, the character of the neighbor underwent a complete change; the scenes in the studio, the factory where Alice worked, and the Lesbian bar were the invention of screenwriter Lukas Heller, as was the notorious "seduction scene" between Coral Browne and Susannah York. Sister George became a character on a television serial rather than a radio serial. As Beryl Reid was dyslexic, one can only imagine her thoughts about the expanded script.
