mojo2004 says > Remake of ' Take Her She's Mine'
Yes, I noticed that. The two movies are different in a lot of ways but it's clear they were based on the same premise. I thought both were stupid and irresponsible but, in my opinion, this one was much worse.
Disturbing and creepy: The daughter's relationship and marriage to a man that much older wouldn't have been a problem except for the fact she's a minor. They tried to make it better by saying they had been seeing each for a long time but that makes it worse. How old was she when it started, twelve?
Inappropriate: Seeing your colleagues underage daughter in secret is bad enough but it's much worse when the guy was editing a parent-child relationship book and doing things that were contradictory to anything that would have been in the book. Besides, he had a hostile relationship with her father so it seems he went after the daughter to spite the father. If he knew he was seeing the man's daughter, he should have tried to be more respectful and honest. Also, making it seem like all is well because he gave the book to the board is ridiculous.
Nonsense: What's interesting is how both movies tried hard to be 'hip' and modern but they're both as traditional as movies made decades earlier. To justify any talk of sex, both girls end up married in the end. Neither one seemed remotely ready for sex or marriage.
I would have preferred if both movies showed the parents having a serious discussion about life and its consequences with their daughters. If it was too late for the first one then they should have learned from their mistake and had the discussion with the second daughter. I thought they were neglectful parents who never explained the facts of life.
Irresponsible: The sexual revolution and feminism encouraged women to do whatever they wanted; burn their bras, have sex with multiple partners, get high, do whatever they wanted yet these girls were in no way prepared to take care of themselves. No problem, just blame all the guys instead.
Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
