DVD release
Anyone know when they plan a DVD release of Ice Station Zebra?

Forget the previous person's offer. In early 2005 Turner Classic Movies will begin selling a high quality, restored DVD with many extra features on it for this film.
"You've shown your quality sir. The very highest."
About time. It is not the greatest movie out there but it sure is good enough to enjoy in crisp DVD-quality :) Can't wait for the release.
shareThis being an MGM film, it strikes me odd that MGM hasn't released it out yet. MGM does a great job releasing their films on to DVD, especially a lot of their older films. You also have to consider the 'cult status' that this film has.
I would think that there has to be something wrong with the rights or something.
I hope to see one sometime soon though.

shareWow, lol, they must have just announced this baby!
Yeah, Kurt's right. Here it is (with a cool looking cover I might add)
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3342242&sourceid=1500000000000001827160&dest=9999999997
It doesn't have the MGM DVD logo on it, and MGM doesnt have it listed on their upcoming DVDs site, so I guess MGM won't be releasing this. Probably one (of the many)films that Warner Bros/Turner stole. (ok, so some of u might say that they didn't 'steal' them, but it's almost that way.
That's actually the first time I've ever been to walmart.com, and hopefully the last.
Amazon still doesn't have this listed, but when they do we will be able to see what studio is releasing it and what features will be on it. (I hope we get more than a trailer)
Never mind, I just checked Yahoo! DVD and here are the specs:

Featurette - Vintage Making-of Featurette The Man Who Makes the Difference
Well, WB is releasing and it looks like we are getting more stuff than just a trailer (PLUS it's not one of Warner Bros cheap POS carb board snap cases!!)
Man, I can't wait.
But did you notice that it's a Canadian release only? Not availabe in the US!
shareMGM no longer owns the rights to the film. Such is the case with many of their films. Warner has the rights for them, hence why it's being released by Warner Home Video. And it is a US release, it came out today.

I'm trying to decide whether this was purposeful or coincidental: the DVD is packaged with a trailer for The Aviator (2004).
"Well, there it is."
I have it:) Great release, even if there's not much extra to talk about.. But then again, the movie stands for itself well enough.
I saw this movie the summer of 1968 and was struck by a few things about this movie. One, the music was perfect... seemed like it was truly tailor made for this movie. Two, the acting was quite good from my perspective, but the kewpie doll goes to Patrick McGoohan for his wonderful portrayal of a James Bond type of character. I honestly believe to this day he should have won the oscar for his superb performance. And was very surprised when he wasn't even nominated for the part! I have been watching and waiting patiently for this movie to be released on DVD and someone finally got around to doing it. It's one of my all time favorites... I'll be buying it soon!
shareThe part of James Bond in Dr No was specifically written for Patrick McGoohan but he declined and it went to Sean Connery instead. McGoohan regretted that decision and this is essentially his take on what the James Bond character should be. If they ever remake Ice Sation Zebra I think Hugh Grant would look just like the young McGoohan.
shareYou'd have thought that if someone went to all the trouble of writing a part specifically for Patrick McGoohan, they would have checked with him first that he wanted to do it?
Or was it like one of those surprise Birthday presents that goes horribly wrong?
