Can anybody tell me if it was true that PMG (Jones) almost drowned in the flooded sabotaged torpedo room??? I heard this mentioned in passing ages ago on a web-site and would love to hear more. I share John Carpenter's view this is definitely one of my all time favourite "guilty pleasures." And I think the IMDB rating definitely should go up a notch!
McGoohan told the story himself in an interview. He said he insisted on doing the scene himself, but had reason to thank the quick thinking of a proper stuntman who swam underwater and released McGoohan's trapped foot when they realised what was happening.
The definition of "guilty pleasures" presumably means something you're embarrassed by but I'm not really.... it's just a rocking great action adventure and entertaining film. I suppose it's that we're all supposed to only admit watching really "worthy" or classic movie greats and it's not one of those. Whenever I'm channel surfing and it's on, I tune in for 5 minutes and find myself hooked. BTW I've never seen a Carpenter movie, i didn't love.

Yes, I know what you're talking about and I hate that kind of intellectual intimidation that presumes on our tastes. For example, "Aliens" (1986) is a bloody good action film that also happens to be character-centred and suprisingly moving. But, because it's set on another planet with monsters crawling around then it can't possibly be held in the same esteem as more "important" films like "The Mission" or "Platoon", both of which were nominated for Best Picture that year while "Aliens", of course, was not.
ICE is high on my list of guilty pleasures. Others include WAYNE'S WORLD, ROBIN AND THE 7 HOODS, THREE THE HARD WAY, THE RAVEN (Karloff-Lugosi) and HUSH, HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE.
