Jones and Ostransky

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Remember during the confrontation scene between the submarine crew and the Russian Paratroopers, where Colonel Ostransky saw Jones stepping out of the British weather station's laboratory? From the look on the Russian Colonel's face, you get the impression that he has met Jones before. But you really don't think about it, until the end, when Jones says "Dasvydania" to Ostransky. The Soviet military officer stops for a moment, looks over behind his shoulder, then moves on.

What do you think? Could Ostransky and Jones have confronted each other before the mission to Ice Station Zebra? Have they met before? Part of me says, yes they have. What do you think?
