Someone With US Marine/Navy Background Please Help

When the Marines arrive at Holy Loch and begin to board the submarine, shouldn't they have saluted the national ensign at the rear of the boat? I didn't notice if one was flying (would one be required before a salute could be rendered?), so that might have contributed to the situation.

Arguably a minor point, but I was just curious. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Reporting aboard individually, yes. Salute to the stern or the bridge (Sail), then to the Officer of the Deck. If reporting as a unit, I believe the Unit Commander would do so for the unit.

Many thanks for the information and the distinction about reporting on board individually vs. reporting as a unit.
