the ending (spoilers)

im sure someone out there besides me has noticed that it had the same resolution as For Your Eyes Only. piece of hardware wanted by both the russians & the allies, comes down to a mexican standoff. the allies destroy it rather than let the russians have it. no one wins, no bloodshed.

two similar endings by two legendary authors. altho FYEO was written in 1960, ISZ was written in 1963.

I was thinking the same thing, very similar endings.

Bond: "That's detente General. You don't have it. I don't have it."

Though I'm not sure the books can be compared since FYEO was a collection of short stories that didn't have much to do with the '81 film.

I don't think the book ending is anything like the movie (which I think is a pretty good , realistic type of conclusion). It's more along the lines of good guys winning through, despite the best efforts of the saboteurs.🐭
