This is for you fans in the know:

I read somewhere about a different ending than the parting-ways original ending. I don't know if it was in the script or if it was filmed or what, but it sort of seemed to me to be the best ending for the story:

Japanese soldiers arrive on the island and promptly behead Marvin. Appalled, Mifune goes nuts and just kills everybody.

It speaks to the friendship angle of the story (at least to me). Does anyone else know anything about this?

Thats pretty crazy, but I havent never heard of it. And the parting ways ending..that was the original ending? What about the bomb ending they always show on tv?

That was the "studio ending". The original one was cut out, but it's on most of the DVD releases I guess
