Cast of two and never spoke?
I don't think I ever saw a movie with less dialogue spoken than this one. Hell, a cast of two. And they never spoke.

shareHeh. What movie were you watching? There was dialogue pretty much throughout the whole film.
shareWell, two monologues, actually. You can't call it dialogue, since they don't understand each other at all. I think that's one of the best things about this film - in most similar fictions the non-English-speaker learns to speak picturesque broken English almost instantly.
Not that we're in much doubt what Mifune is saying, most of the time!
I think it would still be cool to know what Mifune said. Does anyone know about whether any subtitles were added to the DVD version? I'd really love to see the alternative ending.
shareI don't think there are any subtitles anywhere. I think that's the point, really. A Japanese speaker would get just as much out of the film understanding Mifune and having to guess at what Marvin was saying.
Yes, I'd like to see the alternative ending. Time for a de-luxe DVD release!
I'll say again that their tone of voice and facial expressions made for plenty of dialogue.
