I read the book by Carson McCullers many years ago and it is one of my favorite of all time. I think I rented the movie on VHS a few years ago. It occasionally comes on TV I think. Surprisingly, the movie is also very good.

It was on tv today. I'm so happy I taped it. It was my first time seeing it and the ending was just shocking.

"I'm out Jerry, And I'm loving every minute of it !"

Lucky you! I was flipping through the channels and saw that it had already started. I was SO disappointed, since this is a movie I've been dying to see.

The next showings for this movie are:

March 25 - 2:45 am - WMAX (Cinemax sub-station)

March 26 - 8:20 am - MoreMax

What a bummer. Hopefully with Alan Arkin's Oscar nom, people will start getting more interested in his early work, leading to more dvd releases of his lesser known movies. Hopefully. *keeps fingers crossed*

If your local video store doesn't have it, don't forget about libraries. If you local library doesn't have it, ask them to get it for you on interlibrary loan. A lot of libraries lend materials to each other.

I saw it for the first time about 8 years ago on TV. Luckily, it was being shown as CBS' Late Night Movie. I couldn't sleep and just turned on the tube. Ordinarily, I would have continuously flipped the channel....but, when I saw Cicely Tyson's face (she's my favorite actress) I just kept it on.

The following morning I made it a point to call a few video stores. I live in NJ and none of my local video stores carried it, so I called a few places in NYC (the city that has everything. lol) and sure enough....Tower Records (video store) had it. I purchased it that same day!

The Public Library's a great tool...my local branch had this film on VHS, Warner Home Video. $1 charge for one week.

This is an awesome flick; and one of most subtle and powerful of any movie I’ve watched. I urge all of you (as I’ve seen on other post subjects here) to go to Amazon.com (the parent company of this marvelous site) and vote for the release of The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter.

Go here: http://www.amazon.com/Heart-Lonely-Hunter-Robert-Miller/dp/B00005JO5S/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-6801618-6319260?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1176413447&sr=1-1

And click “Alert Me” and that in effect means you are voting for the release of the DVD. If it doesn’t say “Alert Me” you either don’t have an account or you aren’t logged in. Getting an account is easy, fast and free of charge.

Five movies we NEED on DVD:

1. I Never Sang for My Father (1970)

2. Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985)

3. Ironweed (1987)

4. Utvandrarna [English: The Emigrants], need Region 1 (1971)

5. The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1968)

I was a tad young and it pretty much broke me down. You want moving...sad...this is it. Used to be a measure of sorts for me.
Sophie's Choice comes to mind.

Just saw it on cable. It reminded me also of the first time I saw this movie in the theater. It was part of a school assignment. I believe I was in the 7th grade. I too recall being very moved by the story.

I saw it in first release when it opened at the Manor Theatre in San Mateo, California. I have not seen it since.

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...
