Just watched it for the first time
Very visceral and pleasantly understated portrayal of such immense loneliness. I don't think I'll ever forget this beautiful film.

shareI just watched it for the first time too, I was really impressed at the depth of this film. I can't believe I've never seen it, or heard of it. Alan Arkin is remarkable. The ending was unbearably sad.
shareI saw this in the theatre in 1968 and having previously seen Arkin in THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING, THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING (nominated for Best Actor in 1966) and then WAIT UNTIL DARK (1967 - as a creepy villain), I was stunned to see Arkin's acting range back then.
